WHY PLAY THERAPY?

Unlike adults, children can’t communicate effectively with words especially when it comes to feelings and stressful events.  More often, they express their negative emotions in the form of anger and misbehavior.  However, all children love to play.  Play Therapy provides a place for children to explore feelings through the use of toys and other carefully selected materials.

In Play Therapy, children have access to art supplies, sand/sand toys, puppets and other playthings for dramatic and fantasy play.  These props help children play out internal emotional experiences that are causing them pain.  Our trained therapists provide a safe environment that encourages children to develop skills to understand the past and change their future.

WHAT IS PLAY THERAPY?

Play Therapy refers to a large number of treatment methods, all of which make use of one or more of the natural benefits of play.  All Play Therapy differs from regular play in that the therapist helps children systematically address and resolve their own problems.  Since play is fun, it makes it easier for children to confront what is bothering them.  Play allows them a safe psychological distance from their problems. Through play, the therapist will be better able to help children find solutions to their problems and allow them to express their true thoughts and feelings in ways best suited to their developmental level.
